So hey
I didn't know that the initial spurt of 'hey it would be cool to make this into a storyteller system' thing was followed by an actual making this into a storyteller system thing until I popped over here to look up a link I couldn't find any more and found posts. Sad I missed it! Would have helped had I known. But since I signed back up to the community about a month or so ago, an idea that's been bugging me for a while has been rearing its head again, and while this post is mostly directed toward wondergecko, I will put it up here because it could affect other folk.

Many of you may have heard of National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. The long and short of it is basically that people try to pound out a 50,000-odd word novel in a month. This year, I've decided to give it a shot. And when I'm throwing ideas for one around in my head, I keep coming back to this, the intro piece to my SGV character, which I think is probably the best thing I've ever written.

Which brings me back to here.

Basically, it's my intent to pound out a novel that basically consists of a series of short perspective pieces (like the one I linked above) based on the SGV setting and I'm looking for approval. wondergecko, we haven't talked in a while but if you want to get in touch with me to talk about this then Ayu (among others) would know how to do so. Credit would be given where it is due.

As for other people, I don't have more than a rough outline of a plot yet, but some of it quite naturally revolves around characters who were created here, viz., characters who are not mine. I'm not going to use characters without permission, so if you don't have a problem with the idea, feel free to leave an OK or contact info below if you want to talk it over. Credit would be given where it is due. And if you don't want me using a character you've created, I totally understand.

So yeah. Questions, thoughts, concerns and whatnot can be sent my way.

[Crunch] Character Sheet: David Tischler
Here it is!

He has more Throwbacks than necessary, but I wasn't sure what else to do with his sole weakness. Comments are welcome.

[Crunch] Our First C-Seed Rollup
It took me all afternoon to do, but here is Dominy Rawlins' sheet (corrected sheet re-uploaded).

[Crunch] A Rollup So Far
So, at the request of our dark masters, I have attempted to roll up a Seed, and record my notes on the matter. This is as far as I got, so, I feel I shall provide what I have and hope we can use this to flesh some stuff out.

The Character Sheet - Svetlana Mikhaylov, the Firebird

My NotesCollapse )

I hope these notes kind of help, as they were what I obvious. Like I said, I ground to a halt at reflections, so, yeah.

Also, for those interested, Svetlana's original character concept (under the name Yelena Maryushka) is here.

A Potential Solution for Throwbacks
Every Seed has Throwbacks--negative and/or strange aspects of the Seeding that become more and more pronounced as the Seed in question grows in power. Each Seed /must/ take one dot of Throwbacks upon character creation. A seed may suffer more dots of Throwback than mandated, but the player should generally only do this if they wish to burden their character. The Storyteller may choose to grant something in return, but is cautioned that this is not generally a good idea; trading Throwbacks for rewards is too easily abused. In addition, a character gains a dot of Throwbacks every time his Mythos is raised above 4.

For example, a 2-Mythos starting character is required to take one dot of Throwback. This existing Throwback remains as it is until the character reaches Mythos 5, whereupon he gains an additional dot of Throwback, for a total of two dots. At Mythos 6, he gains another total dot of Throwback on top of his base Throwbacks, for a total of three dots, and so on.

Throwback dots are calculated like Reflection dots--reference the table below, and add up the points until the total for the Throwback in question is reached.

Edit: Added explanatory text. Any recommendations for additions to/subtractions from the table are welcome!

Edit: Added Dependency Throwback, condensed text.

Potential Reflections Solution
An idea occurred to me this morning for how we could make Reflections work without providing writeups for every single potential power out there.

Prototype ListCollapse )

The Evocation in question may only be used on the character.

Edit: Edited to reflect the usage of dots, which makes more sense with Storyteller.

Edit: Added explanations of individual Reflection attributes.

You get seven points at character generation to spend on these. We'll playtest things to get the kinks out.

[Crunch] Reflections
I was bored, too. Here are some sample Reflections for your perusal and review! Note the vocabulary terms 'Evocation' and 'Aspect'--Aspect Reflections are always on, whereas Evocation Reflections must be triggered with specific actions and/or expenditures of Memory.

Character sheet prototype
I got bored, here is a rough mockup of what the character sheet might end up looking like, as things currently stand. I noticed right after finishing it that the nWoD stats also replace Charisma with Presence, so that there can be a stat that applies to 'how scary you are' if you're not a people person but still want to rule by fear. Ah well.

Edit: New version here. Charisma replaced by Presence (attribute), Presence (ability) replaced by Socialize. Background replaced by very rudimentary border outline and St. George coat of arms. Section headers changed because on reflection I don't think they fit, and they'd mess with the border anyway.

Character Creation
Things we've worked out thus far (check my comment on eighteenwindows's post below): nWoD's base system and rules, nWoD's stats and "supernatural template" outline, Exalted Charm-like powers, Abilities from Scion, oWoD's beginning attribute dots, oWoD/Exalted/Scion's Nature system, Exalted/Scion's health levels (-0, -1, -1, -2, -2, -4, Incapacitated).

Character Creation OutlineCollapse )

Recovering MemoryCollapse )

Still unresolved: anything about Reflections at all, whether to use Backgrounds and if so what they should be and how many you get, what bonus point costs should be for each item.

Crunchy bits! (WIP)
Seeds are much like Scions, system-wise, for those of you who've played or written up a Scion!

Seeds get the basic nine Scion Attributes, which are divided into Physical, Mental, and Social categories. They prioritize points (8/6/4?) into Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary categories just like Scion characters. In addition, they gain a certain number of points (yet to be decided) on Mythological (read: Epic) attributes and supernatural powers; abilities directly based off Attributes (in general, powers that affect the user only) are classified as Knacks (we need to come up with another name for this), while abilities that (generally) affect others are Boons (ditto).

In place of Legend, Seeds get Mythos, which is a measure of how 'in-tune' a character is with his Seed; how much the mythological archetype within them dominates their personality and actions. Starting characters have Mythos 2, and Mythos can be bought up with bonus points or XP.

And now, the Knacks.Collapse )

Random question:

Has the address for the MUX changed, or something? Or are people just not on it?

Scene update.
Okay. A while back I posted an entry about a scene idea for the people who were interested in RP'ing on the MUX. The details can be found here. Thus far, the tenative date for the scene is this coming Sunday, though I'd like to get a better idea of what times would be good for all of you. So. If you want in, let me know! Thanks.

An inquiry as to the status of this community's vitality.
Headcount! How many people are still in here and writing? Please, please comment to this entry or I won't know if you've even paying attention anymore. Please.

Also, forget about the character app needing to be approved for you to do something. Basically, DO STUFF. I want to see motion here, and I'll generate some myself, if need be.

Finally, feel free to invite other people here. Just toss them the link, give them the gist of what's going on, and have them join the community. I'll look over all joining requests, so don't worry too much about J. Random Spammer picking up the link and doing something naughty with it.

Well, RL caught me off guard a while back, and I only remember this community today, much to my shame. I play Yelena, BTW. Even if I, unfortunately, didn't get round to doing much with her.

So, umm. Is this place still alive, at all? Cause if so, well. I wouldn't mind getting involved in doing some stuff.

Scene idea!
Okay. I know I mentioned this to several people here, but I had an idea for a scene on-MUSH, and would like to see if anybody's interested.

Details within!Collapse )
